Blog 24 - Last Presentation Reflection

(1) Positive Statement

What are you most proud of in your block presentation and/or your senior project? Why?
  • There are a few things I am very proud of, for one I am proud for hitting my time limit. I am also proud for being able to keep my audience engaged, and for keeping Mrs.Edwards amused. I proud of this because, without an engaged audience, the presentation can get awkward and boring and isn't fun for anyone.

(2) Questions to Consider

a.     What assessment would you give yourself on your block presentation?  Use the  component contract to defend that assessment.

AE       P          AP       CR       NC
  • I believe I deserve an AE because I dressed professionally, my audience was engaged and I believe my volume was loud and consistent. My hook also had the entire audience participating and my powerpoint was organized. I also had many cited sources and explain my answers very throughly and logically. Lastly, with my activities, I had a thorough debrief and when asked, no one had questions.
b.     What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project? Use the component contract to defend that assessment

AE       P          AP       CR       NC
  • I had all my sources, and I did well on my exit interview. I did well during my first and second lesson presentations and took criticism and suggestions and applied it to my final presentation.
(3) What worked for you in your senior project
  • I believed what worked is that, my mentor and clinic were very accessible. I also felt that I could talk to my house and advisory house pretty comfortably. I received valuable feedback from peers and teachers and implemented them into my senior project. I believe also that it worked because I was willing to research a bunch of other things, not just my 3 answers.

(4) (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your senior project?
  • If I had a time machine, I would go back so I could start working on my presentation earlier so that I had more time to practice.

(5) Finding Value

How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors?   Be specific and use examples
  • Its made me realize that speech pathology is actually a very interesting career (topic), and that there are many things to learn about it. It made me have a greater appreciation for my mothers and grandmothers craft. I could also seriously consider speech pathology as a future career

Blog 18 - Answer 2

1.  What is your EQ?
  • How can a speech pathologist best help a client meet their language development goals?
2.  What is your first answer? (In complete thesis statement format)

  • A speech therapist can help a client best meet their language development goals by making sure there is active parent involvement.
3.  What is your second answer? (In complete thesis statement format)

  • A speech therapist can best help a client meet their language development goals by early intervention.
4.  List three reasons your answer is true with a real-world application for each.

  • Prevention of a disorder - If there is early intervention, a speech disorder can be pushed back/delayed and the disorder can even be avoided all together.
  • Strategies - During early intervention, a speech therapist can teach strategies to help a client compensate for their disorder. Ex: If a child with down syndrome can't speak, they can be tought gestures, Baby Sign, and even ASL.
  • Basic Skill - Early Intervention gives a client with language delays a better chance at having appropriate social, communicative skills at the age level they should.
5.  What printed source best supports your answer?

  • The printed source that best supports my answer is an article about early intervention written by the AmericanSpeech-Language-Hearing Association.
6.  What other source supports your answer?
  • Some other sources that support my answer are sources found on a website called Day 2 Day Parenting and all the content the website is developed and written by their team of early childhood professionals: Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Developmentalists, and Dietitians.

7.  Tie this together with a  concluding thought.

  • Early intervention is an important component of helping ensure a successful speech therapy cycle. It can help reduce the need of speech therapy as the client gets older and can even eliminate the need of therapy past the developing stages of the diagnosis.

Lesson 2 Reflection

1.What are you most proud of in your Lesson 2 Presentation and why?

  • Im most proud that I made time and that I was able to create an activity that got my entire audience involved.

2. a.     What assessment would you give yourself on your Lesson 2 Presentation (self-assessment)?

  • I would give myself a P. I feel I hit all my marks. Im not sure about anything else because I'm not very good at judging my own accomplishments.

     b.     Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence from the Lesson 2 component contract

  • I feel I hit all my marks. I had my 10 minutes of content as well as a full 2 minutes of a hook and I had 10 minutes for my activity.  Im not sure about anything else because I'm not very good at judging my own accomplishments.

 3. What worked for you in your Lesson 2?
  • What worked well for me during my lesson 2 is the amount of communication and access I have to my mentor and my mentor's willingness to provide me with information.
4. What didn't work? If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your Lesson
2?

  • If I had a time machine to go back and do my presentation differently I would figure out how to make my power point more aesthetically  pleasing , putting less words on each slide and finding a more creative way to fit my answer and essential question on each slide. i would also have a more appealing poster with my essential question.

5. What do you think your answer #2 is going to be?

  • I think my answer 2 might be , finding a team of and working together with professionals to address every need of the client.

Blog 11 - Lesson 1 Reflection

1. What are you most proud of in your lesson, and why?

  • What I'm most proud of in my lesson is my hook activity, with my phonology cards.  I had a very hard time finding one and the one that I ended up  using engaged the audience a lot more than I had expected.
2. What assessment would you give yourself on your lesson? Explain why you earned that grade using evidence from the component contract.

  • I would give myself a P. I believe I earned a P because I made time, I spoke clearly and loudly, I cited 3 different articles, I used quotes from my mentor from interview 2, I believe my content flowed nicely with each other, and I spoke out to the class , making eye contact and making a connection with my audience for a majority of the time.
3. If you could go back, what would you change about your lesson?  How can you use that knowledge to give a better Lesson 2?

  • If I could go back I would make sure to have practiced presenting a lot more than I had. So that I didn't have to refer to my notes so often and so that I could stay making a connection with my audience more than I had. Also, I would be prepared with more props. I will use this knowledge for lesson 2 by practicing my presentation so many more times. Also, I will use  props, like charts or toys, so that the audience stays more interested and can be a little more involved. Like if I were to pass around the  toys and they could hold them in their hands or I had them do an activity with the toys.
